Today on the way to the grocery we stopped by Lincoln's Birthplace National Park.
Little C1 asks every time we go to town to stop so I did today.

Checking pigs with Daddy

Tonight we had a family night on the farm. We all went to the hog barn. Big C checks on the piggies once before he goes to bed each day. This is part of his routine to make sure every one is doing good and babies are ok before the night. We just happened to be out with him tonight. Our mommas-the sows and babies-the pigs are housed in a climate controlled barn for keeping them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They have an individual food bowl and water spout for drinking. The sows are fed three times a day the right amount she needs to nurse her pigs. The pigs have a heat mat to keep them warm right after birth and in the cooler months they get a heat light as well. These pigs have it made.

Here are some pictures from our time in the barn.

following Daddy
Big C counts the pigs and records information about the litter of pigs as he is checking. The time is recorded when a new litter is discovered. Through computer records we know the date the sow is to give birth and it's pretty accurate unlike human babies!

The boys especially Little C2 wanted to pet the pigs. He even wanted to climb in with them.

Delivering meals to Daddy is a highlight of our day.
This was a few weeks ago when he was planting soybeans.

Rain sets the mood.

Let's talk about rain. Does rain really set the mood? You plan an outdoor event you are praying for no rain. It rains and puts a damper on the party. It rains when you are out shopping it messes your hair up; bad hair day. You are on vacation at the beach and it rains; very disappointing.
Have you ever thought of the flip side of rain?  My reaction growing up about rain was it made everything harder 'cause you were wet. Growing up in Florida it rained a lot.

Married to a farmer for 6 years as of today! my idea of rain has changed.

Rain still sets the mood but when it's not raining we are bummed. I'm sure all farm wives can attest it puts their husband in a not so happy mood and somewhat grumpy. This time of year we are praying for rain; the crops are planted now it is up to God to send the rain. Big C asked us to pray for rain this week and Little C1 responded with God already knows. We are praying for rain because we are dry and could use a good soaking. So take a guess at the moods of local farmers right now? At the moment it is misting rain and cool in July. This weather is helpful because the corn and soybeans aren't baking in summer heat but they aren't flourishing to their potential when lacking rain. When we are in planting or harvest season the rain is welcomed then too. We push so hard to get field work done while its dry; when it does rain we go out to eat. When most Americans would stay home and not get wet we are out at a restaurant. I know it's a little backwards too and took a little bit of getting used to.
I may not have changed your perception of rain but next time it rains think it's helping my food grow. I have gone out the door many times hoping not to get wet and Big C will say I hope you get soaked.

Here's a picture from our wedding in Florida on a HOT and dry day back in 2008.

A quick video.

If you ever wondered how we move big equipment down the road; here's a quick video.
Maneuvering country roads is still a challenge. It has been a long spring/summer planting season. We are thankful to be finished! Now to relaxing. It's refreshing to see crops up and growing. Now we just sit back and pray for rain until harvest time.
This video shows folding the soybean planter to move down the road.
